Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel
The Faculty of Medicine of the Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel (CAU) is associated to Germany’s 2nd largest University Hospital (UKSH), and has a strong research focus on inflammatory diseases and precision medicine. Since the start of the 2007 Excellence Initiative, the German Research Foundation (DFG) has been supporting the "Inflammation at Interfaces" Cluster of Excellence in the investigation of chronic inflammatory skin and bowel diseases. The newly-granted Cluster of Excellence "Precision Medicine in Inflammation” will now translate scientific findings into the human diagnostic or therapeutic experiment in order to improve patient care by faster diagnoses and molecularly guided personalised treatment. The Department of Dermatology and Allergy is a recognized leader in translational molecular research on inflammatory skin diseases, and combines the clinical study of new therapeutics with laboratory studies of immunopathogenic mechanisms in human cells and tissues. The Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (ICMB) operates the largest university based next generation sequencing centre in Germany and is a world leader in genomic research.
Role within BIOMAP
CAU is academic -coordinator of BIOMAP and in collaboration with the project leader is responsible for the overall scientific progress of the project, the quality of the results and the timely submission of all required documents and reports to the IMI JU. CAU will contribute samples and data from large patient and control cohorts, and will generate tissue specific molecular profiles in order to identify key pathophysiological pathways and signatures, and to molecularly define disease subtypes.
